Glues are regularly used in toilet paper manufacturing to combine the plies and attach the end of the roll to the cardboard tube. There are alternative ways to achieve this, but this is the most popular choice.
Sadly, many of these glues contain animal-derived gelatine. Gelatine is a protein extracted from collagen found in the bones, skin, and ligaments of animals, usually pigs & cows.
Companies using these glues prefer to keep this little snippet of information on the down low – of course, no one is shouting about being non-cruelty-free. Fellow eco-conscious companies are likely to opt for a gelatine-free, water-based adhesive. Guess what - there is another way!
The bumboo way…
Our 3-ply toilet rolls are combined using embossing pressure alone! Plus, our loo rolls are so tightly wound there is no need to glue the end of the paper to the tube – fret not, it does not cause the remaining tissue to sag when nearing the end. Is it magic, possibly?
We are super proud to say that our products are 100% vegan!
