Your questions answered

What is bumboo made from?

Typically, our products are made from 100% bamboo, a fast-growing, renewable resource. However we identified a small batch where the fibre content did not align with our 100% bamboo standards. We have clearly labeled this as 'mixed fibre' to ensure transparency. We're committed to rectifying this manufacturing error and have implemented stringent quality controls to ensure that going forwards our products are always made from 100% bamboo.

Where does the raw bamboo come from?

The bamboo we use comes from the Sichuan province of China, where it grows naturally in abundance, without the use of chemical insecticides, pesticides or fertilisers. We source bamboo predominantly from local farming co-operatives, thereby supporting the rural economy. All sources are FSC certified and therefore responsibly and sustainably managed.

What is your packaging made from?

Our paper wraps are made from FSC certified paper and printed with soybean based inks. Our cartons are made from recycled paper and printed with soybean inks. All packaging is fully recyclable and compostable (although we would always encourage you to reuse packaging as much as possible before choosing one of these options.)

Where is bumboo made? If it’s overseas, how is it transported and do you offset the carbon emissions?

Our rolls are manufactured close to where the raw material (bamboo) is sourced in China, and we ship by sea freight to the UK. Sea freight is recognised as one of the most carbon efficient methods of transport available - up to 10 times more efficient than road freight. We make our rolls extra-long and compactly rolled to further minimise transport related carbon emissions (and reduce inner core wastage), and we plant a tree for every box of toilet rolls purchased, via Eden Reforestation Projects, so we aim to offset our carbon emissions in this way.

Our intentions throughout the business are to be as considered in our environmental footprint as possible, continually looking for ways to improve, and ultimately our wish is to be climate positive / carbon negative, as well as a force for positive action in lots of other ways too.

Is your product and packaging completely plastic free?

Yes! Being plastic free is very important to us, and has been an integral part of our mission from the outset. We studied many packaging options, including so-called environmentally friendly plastic options such as oxy-degradable plastic. However, given the unrealistic conditions needed for such plastics to degrade, we felt that paper was the most environmentally sound choice. We also took care to ensure that no plastic was present in our packaging tape, opting to use a kraft paper based eco packaging tape reinforced with glass fibres.

Is bumboo suitable for sensitive skin?

Yes! Our bamboo toilet tissue has the benefit of being naturally super soft, hypoallergenic, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, so it’s great for all skin types, and doesn’t need any chemical enhancers such as softening additives, chemical scents or dyes. It’s also free from any of the chemicals associated with recycled paper, such as de-inking agents and BPA.

Why are your toilet rolls individually wrapped?

This is our most frequently asked question, and one that is fundamental to understanding our product development journey, so we're always grateful to share our answer to this! We set out to create a product that was environmentally conscious and more sustainable than mainstream, tree-based tissue brands, and creating packaging that was 100% plastic free was an important part of this. After careful evaluation of our options, the choice ultimately came down to either paper bags holding multiple rolls or bulk packed rolls in individual wrappers. Surprisingly, we discovered that the paper bags used more paper by weight than the thin individual wrappers, so we chose to use individual wrappers. (A paper bag holding 4 rolls weighs 17g, versus 4 individual paper wrappers weighing 13g).

Is bumboo toilet paper bleached?

Our white paper is whitened using a mix of oxygen and hydrogen peroxide, in a process that is totally chlorine free  (TCF), and is generally considered one of the most environmentally safe ways to bleach paper. We now also offer unwhitened options, for those wishing to minimize their environmental impact further.

Are your products vegan?

Yes we are vegan certified! We don’t use any animal derived ingredients, and have worked hard to source vegan-friendly components at every stage of the development process, including the glue used for the inner roll cores, outer cartons and paper tape, which uses a plant based glue. We also do not test on animals, and no animal testing takes place within our supply chain.

Is bumboo suitable for septic tanks and composting toilets?

Yes! Our toilet paper has been tested for disintegration and is well suited to both of these systems.

Is bumboo toilet paper suitable for saniflo and other mechanically discharged waste systems?

We've worked hard to develop a premium bamboo toilet paper with excellent disintegration qualities comparable to leading premium virgin wood fibre toilet papers in terms of the time it takes to disintegrate once the paper makes contact with water. Therefore, it is suitable for all waste systems, provided that a premium 3 ply toilet paper is deemed suitable according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Why has my payment been declined?

The most common reasons that your payments had been declined:

- Your bank card has expired. You will need to update your card details in the ‘payment methods’ section of your account.

- There are insufficient funds in the account. If you have recently transferred funds into the account, please do let us know, and we can retry the charge.

If the above does not apply to you then it could be that the payment is being rejected by your bank, this is often due to the following:

- The card does not support subscription / repeat transactions. You may wish to confirm this with your bank if you’re unsure. You will need to add an alternative card in the ‘payment methods’ section of the website.

- Your bank is unwilling to accept the transaction. The reasons for this can vary, and a call to the bank is required for more information.

- For PayPal payments, pre-authorisation payments may have been revoked. We recommend checking your PayPal settings if your PayPal repeat payment has been declined. You may wish to seek advice from a PayPal representative on how to reactivate repeat payments.

If you have checked-off all the above, and are still experiencing issues with your payment,
please contact us at wecare@bumboo.eco, where a member of our customer care team is more than happy to assist.

Is my payment to bumboo secure?

We take security extremely seriously at Bumboo. When you buy bamboo toilet paper from us, we do not save, share or even look at your financial details. Everything is encrypted and unreadable. Does bumboo save your passwords?

No we do not save your passwords. Just like your financial information these are store on servers that are fully encrypted. For our website platform we use Shopify who are market leaders in ecommerce and just like Braintree are Level 1 PC compliant, you can read more here - https://liquify.design/all/shopify-security-how-secure-is-shopify-and-shopify-plus/

That doesn’t mean you don’t have to play your part too; remember always use unique passwords and if you can it is a good idea to change your passwords every so often. Also, remember the golden rule, if you don’t know who the email is from, don’t click it or open the attachment. The good thing is these big tech companies such as Braintree and Shopify spend huge amounts of money on data
security, so by partnering with them, we can provide the best in class to you, our valued customer.

I have received an email from Apple about my password with bumboo – what should I do?

The recent IOS 14 update on Apple Devices introduced a new feature called Security Recommendations that monitors your passwords and notifies you if they are too weak, if you are reusing them, or if they show up in known data leaks. The new “Security Recommendations” feature does that monitoring automatically and matches your stored passwords against known databases with leaked passwords. If there’s a match, you’ll be alerted with a “This password has
appeared in a data leak,…” message.

The alert may be shown even if you don’t have a password leak concerning your specific account. For instance, if a 123456 password has leaked online and you are using the same password for any of your accounts, you will get a warning message because the service compares your current password with the one that has become publicly available in known database leaks.  You can see if your email address is associated with any known leaks on the following website: https://haveibeenpwned.com/

This setting can be turned ON and OFF by visiting: Settings >>> Passwords >>> Security Recommendations>>> Detect Compromised Passwords.

If you are using a password that has appeared in a known data leak then you should protect your account from being accessed by other people immediately.  You should create a strong new password that:

- includes different symbols, numbers, and letters in a hard-to-guess combination

- has a minimum of twelve to fourteen characters

- is unique for that specific account and not used in other accounts

- does not contain real words or common phrases

- does no contain personal details about you that could be found elsewhere (such as name, birthday, etc.)

If you have any questions regarding your security, please let us know a wecare@bumboo.eco, and we will be very happy to help.
