Your questions, answered
bamboo paper
What is bumboo made from?
Our toilet paper is made from 100% bamboo, a fast-growing, renewable resource that provides a sustainable alternative to traditional tree-based paper.
We’ve implemented stringent quality controls to ensure that our products always remain 100% bamboo. To maintain transparency, we test every batch and publish the test results on our website, so you can trust that you’re always getting the highest quality, kind-to-the-planet toilet paper.
Where does the raw bamboo come from?
The bamboo we use comes from the Sichuan province of China, where it grows naturally in abundance, without the use of chemical insecticides, pesticides or fertilisers. We source bamboo predominantly from local farming co-operatives, thereby supporting the rural economy. All sources are FSC certified and therefore responsibly and sustainably managed.
What is your packaging made from?
Our paper wraps are made from FSC certified paper and printed with soybean based inks. Our cartons are made from recycled paper and printed with soybean inks. All packaging is fully recyclable and compostable (although we would always encourage you to reuse packaging as much as possible before choosing one of these options).
Where is bumboo made? If it’s overseas, how is it transported and do you offset the carbon emissions?
Our rolls are manufactured close to where the raw (bamboo) material is sourced in China, and we ship by sea freight to the UK. Sea freight is recognised as one of the most carbon efficient methods of transport available - up to 10 times more efficient than road freight. We make our rolls extra-long and compactly rolled to further minimise transport related carbon emissions (and reduce inner core wastage).
Our intentions throughout the business are to be as considered in our environmental footprint as possible, continually looking for ways to improve, and ultimately our wish is to be climate positive / carbon negative, as well as a force for positive action in lots of other ways too.
Is your product and packaging completely plastic free?
Yes! Being plastic free is very important to us, and has been an integral part of our mission from the outset. We studied many packaging options, including so-called environmentally friendly plastic options such as oxy-degradable plastic. However, given the unrealistic conditions needed for such plastics to degrade, we felt that paper was the most environmentally sound choice. We also took care to ensure that no plastic was present in our packaging tape, opting to use a kraft paper based eco packaging tape reinforced with glass fibres.
Is bumboo suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes! Our bamboo toilet tissue has the benefit of being naturally super soft, hypoallergenic, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, so it’s great for all skin types, and doesn’t need any chemical enhancers such as softening additives, chemical scents or dyes. It’s also free from any of the chemicals associated with recycled paper, such as de-inking agents and BPA.
Why are your toilet rolls individually wrapped?
This is our most frequently asked question, and one that is fundamental to understanding our product development journey, so we're always grateful to share our answer to this! We set out to create a product that was environmentally conscious and more sustainable than mainstream, tree-based tissue brands, and creating packaging that was 100% plastic free was an important part of this. After careful evaluation of our options, the choice ultimately came down to either paper bags holding multiple rolls or bulk packed rolls in individual wrappers. Surprisingly, we discovered that the paper bags used more paper by weight than the thin individual wrappers, so we chose to use
the wrappers. (A paper bag holding 4 rolls weighs 17g, versus 4 individual paper wrappers weighing 13g).
Is bumboo toilet paper bleached?
Our white paper is bleached using a elemental chlorine free process (ECF), and is generally considered one of the most environmentally safe ways to bleach paper. We now also offer unwhitened options, for those wishing to minimize their environmental impact further.
Are your products vegan?
Yes! We don’t use any animal derived ingredients, and have worked hard to source vegan-friendly components at every stage of the development process, including the glue used for the inner roll cores, outer cartons and paper tape, which uses a plant based glue. We also do not test on animals, and no animal testing takes place within our supply chain.
Is bumboo suitable for septic tanks and composting toilets?
Yes! Our toilet paper has been tested for disintegration and is well suited to both of these systems.
Is bumboo toilet paper suitable for saniflo and other mechanically discharged waste systems?
We've worked hard to develop a premium bamboo toilet paper with excellent disintegration qualities comparable to leading premium virgin wood fibre toilet papers in terms of the time it takes to disintegrate once the paper makes contact with water. Therefore, it is suitable for all waste systems, provided that a premium 3 ply toilet paper is deemed suitable according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Yes! Our cleaners work in standard spray bottles and can also be used in mop systems- just dilute as needed.
How long does one bottle/refill last?
Each sachet makes one full bottle of cleaner. Depending on usage, a bottle typically lasts several weeks.
What surfaces can I use this cleaner on?
Our multi-purpose cleaner is safe for most household surfaces, including countertops, sinks, and appliances. Our window cleaner is streak-free on glass, and our bathroom cleaner tackles soap scum and limescale. However we recommend spot-testing on delicate surfaces before full application.

I'm running out quickly
We understand that storage space is at a premium, which is why we’ve designed our products to be as compact and space-efficient as possible- from our small but powerful pods to our tall, slim bottles.
💡 Smart Design, Less Space:
Our reusable bottles take up just 500ml, compared to standard bulky cleaning bottles that hold 800ml+.
Our concentrated pods mean you don’t need to store multiple bottles- just refill when needed.
Despite their size, our pods work out cheaper per use than traditional cleaners, giving you a cost-effective, eco-friendly alternative.
Safety and Ingredients
Are your product safe for children and pets?
Yes, our mineral and plant-based formulas are non-toxic and free from harsh chemicals. However, always store cleaning products out of reach of children and pets.
Does it contain any harsh chemicals or toxins?
No. Our cleaners are free fromparabens, phosphates, phthalates, and other commonly avoided chemicals. The term “harsh chemicals” is often used by brands without a clear definition, but at Bumboo, we take ingredient safety seriously. We ensure that none of our ingredients appear on:
- The EU's list of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) under REACH:
👉 ECHA Candidate List of SVHCs - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Safer Chemical Ingredients List (SCIL), which identifies safer alternatives:
👉 EPA Safer Chemical Ingredients List
We continuously review our formulations to meet or exceed both EU and US safety standards.
Is it antibacterial or disinfectant?
Our cleaners effectively remove dirt and grime. And our antibacterial product is designed to effectively eliminate harmful bacteria and yeasts. It meets the following EN testing standards: EN 1276, EN 1650 and EN 13697.
How long does one bottle/refill last?
Each sachet makes one full bottle of cleaner. Depending on usage, a bottle typically lasts several weeks.
Is this product tested on animals?
No. We are proudly cruelty-free and never test our products or ingredients on animals. We do not commission, condone, or rely on any animal testing as part of our development process. This statement should be given as today, safety assessments can be done using advanced non-animal methods, and in many regions, animal testing is not even legally permitted for cleaning or cosmetic products. It should be noted however, that unfortunately virtually all base ingredients used in consumer products were historically tested on animals — often decades ago, before modern regulations — Bumboo draws a clear ethical line: we do not conduct or fund any animal testing ourselves, and we work only with suppliers who share this commitment.
Does it contain palm oil or any allergens?
Our products are formulated to be free from common allergens and are palm oil-free. However, our bathroom and glass cleaners do contain Linalyl Acetate, Terpineol, and Eugenol — all commonly found in essential oils. However they are present at just above the 0.01% threshold — a level so low it's unlikely to cause irritation for most people.
Still, under UK and EU regulations, even these trace amounts must be declared — and we go the extra mile to be fully transparent about it. While some brands may overlook or bury this information, we clearly label any potential allergens so that even our most sensitive customers can make informed, confident choices.
Is this product free from phosphates and phthalates?
Yes! Bumboo’s cleaning products are completely free from phosphates and phthalates.
Phosphates can contribute to water pollution by causing excessive algae growth in rivers and lakes, which harms aquatic ecosystems.
Phthalates are often used in synthetic fragrances and have been linked to potential health concerns, including hormone disruption.
We believe in cleaning without compromise, which is why our formulas are biodegradable, non-toxic, and safe for your home and the environment.
What should I do if I accidentally ingest or get it in my eyes?
If ingested, seek medical advice. If contact with eyes occurs, rinse thoroughly with water and consult a doctor if irritation persists.
Can I mix it with other cleaning products?
No, we don’t recommend mixing our cleaners with other products, as this could alter their effectiveness.
Is this product plant-based or synthetic?
At Bumboo, we use a plant- and mineral-based formula that balances effectiveness, sustainability, and real environmental impact.
Some brands add small amounts of plant-based ingredients just to make marketing claims, even when they serve no real purpose in the cleaner. At Bumboo, we only use plant-based ingredients where they truly make sense for both performance and sustainability.
Many plant-based ingredients require multiple stages of refinement, often involving synthetic elements, high-energy processing (sometimes using petrochemical fuels), and long-distance shipping—which isn’t always better for the environment. That’s why we source as locally as possible and use surfactants that balance sustainability with effectiveness for the lowest overall impact.
Sustainability & Packaging
What makes this a sustainable or zero-waste option
Our cleaning range is designed with sustainability at its core, helping to reduce waste, carbon emissions, and plastic pollution. Here’s how:
Refillable System – Instead of single-use plastic bottles, we offer reusable bottles that can be refilled with our dissolvable pods, cutting down on plastic waste.
No Water Waste – Traditional cleaning products ship large amounts of water, increasing transport emissions. Our pods mean you only add water at home, reducing unnecessary shipping weight.
Minimal & Recyclable Packaging – Our pods come in lightweight, minimal packaging.
Biodegradable Ingredients – Our formulas break down safely in the environment, avoiding waterway contamination.
Carbon-Conscious Production – Made in the UK to reduce transport emissions, and we work with sustainable suppliers to ensure ethical sourcing.
What guarantees do your reusable bottles come with?
Each Bumboo reusable bottle is covered for 2 years. If it develops a fault during that time, we’ll replace it, no fuss. At the end of its life your bottle can be fully recycled, ready to start a new life.
Spray triggers aren’t included in the guarantee, but if yours stops working within the first month, and it’s been used with Bumboo cleaning solutions and within normal usage, we’ll replace it free of charge. If you need to replace your trigger outside of this timeframe they can be purchased separately.
What are your bottles made from?
Our bottles are made from Prevented Ocean Plastic—high-quality recycled plastic collected from coastal areas at risk of ocean pollution.
✅ Stops plastic before it reaches the ocean – Sourced from areas where plastic waste is at high risk of entering marine ecosystems.
✅ 100% recycled and recyclable – Giving plastic a second life while remaining fully recyclable.
✅ Lightweight and shatterproof – A safer, lower-carbon alternative to glass bottles.
By choosing Bumboo’s reusable bottles you're helping to reduce ocean-bound plastic and support a circular economy.
Are the ingredients biodegradable and eco-friendly?
Yes — we use plant-based, biodegradable ingredients that break down safely in the environment. It’s worth noting that all surfactants have to be biodegradable by law in the UK and EU, so while some brands shout about it, it’s really just the baseline.
Is the packaging recyclable or refillable?
Our bottles are refillable and made from recycled materials. Our pods use minimal packaging to reduce waste and completely dissolve in water.
Does the product contain microplastics?
No, our cleaners are completely microplastic-free. Our water-soluble pods are encased in a thin film of PVOH (polyvinyl alcohol). We use a specific grade that has been independently verified to meet the OECD 301 Ready Biodegradability Test standards (OECD link). This means it is proven to completely dissolve in water, breaking down without creating any micro or nanoplastics.
How does this cleaner reduce my carbon footprint?
By eliminating water from shipping, using lightweight refill pods, and offering reusable bottles, we significantly reduce carbon emissions.
Where is this product made?
Our cleaners are proudly made in the UK, ensuring that we maintain the highest production standards while minimising our carbon footprint. By manufacturing locally, we reduce the environmental impact of transportation and support sustainable supply chains.
We are committed to transparency, and you can explore the full journey of how our products are made—from sourcing eco-friendly ingredients to packaging and distribution—[here]
How should I store my pods?
Store your cleaning pods in a cool, dry place, and keep out of the reach of children and animals.
How do I dispose of the bottle or packaging responsibly?
Our bottles are fully recyclable, and we encourage refilling rather than disposing.
are you bottle stickers made from plastic?
While our stickers do look like plastic, they are actually made from paper!

Why has my payment been declined?
The most common reasons that your payments had been declined:
- Your bank card has expired - You will need to update your card details in the ‘payment methods’ section of your account.
- There are insufficient funds in the account. If you have recently transferred funds into the account, please do let us know, and we can retry the charge.
If the above does not apply to you then it could be that the payment is being rejected by your bank, this is often due to the following:
- The card does not support subscription / repeat transactions. You may wish to confirm this with your bank if you’re unsure. You will need to add an alternative card in the ‘payment methods’ section of the website.
- Your bank is unwilling to accept the transaction. The reasons for this can vary, and a call to the bank is required for more information.
- For PayPal payments, pre-authorisation payments may have been revoked. We recommend checking your PayPal settings if your PayPal repeat payment has been declined. You may wish to seek advice from a PayPal representative on how to reactivate repeat payments.
If you have checked-off all the above, and are still experiencing issues with your payment,

That doesn’t mean you don’t have to play your part too; remember always use unique passwords and if you can it is a good idea to change your passwords every so often. Also, remember the golden rule, if you don’t know who the email is from, don’t click it or open the attachment. The good thing is these big tech companies such as Braintree and Shopify spend huge amounts of money on data
security, so by partnering with them, we can provide the best in class to you, our valued customer.
I have received an email from Apple about my password with bumboo – what should I do?
The recent IOS 14 update on Apple Devices introduced a new feature called Security Recommendations that monitors your passwords and notifies you if they are too weak, if you are reusing them, or if they show up in known data leaks. The new “Security Recommendations” feature does that monitoring automatically and matches your stored passwords against known databases with leaked passwords. If there’s a match, you’ll be alerted with a “This password has
appeared in a data leak,…” message.
The alert may be shown even if you don’t have a password leak concerning your specific account. For instance, if a 123456 password has leaked online and you are using the same password for any of your accounts, you will get a warning message because the service compares your current password with the one that has become publicly available in known database leaks. You can see if your email
address is associated with any known leaks on the following website: https://haveibeenpwned.com/
This setting can be turned ON and OFF by visiting: Settings >>> Passwords >>> Security Recommendations>>> Detect Compromised Passwords.
If you are using a password that has appeared in a known data leak then you should protect your account from being accessed by other people immediately. You should create a strong new password that:
- includes different symbols, numbers, and letters in a hard-to-guess combination
- has a minimum of twelve to fourteen characters
- is unique for that specific account and not used in other accounts
- does not contain real words or common phrases
- does no contain personal details about you that could be found elsewhere (such as name, birthday, etc.)
If you have any questions regarding your security, please let us know a wecare@bumboo.eco, and we will be very happy to help.
